HOW IS YOUR HEART?
There was plenty of danger in stopping for any reason on the Jericho road - one was likely to be attacked, and anyway a man lying in the ditch could be drunk - does he deserve my help?
The love Jesus talks about in this parable includes no pre-conditions. The person just acts from a compassionate heart: this heart, as the Pope says, âwill give us an eye for the sort of service that is asked of us, that is possible for us and, therefore, expected of us in our own environment'. We can take it that in Jesus' book, that kind of heart is a healthy one.
Jesus himself is also the Good Samaritan who picks up broken humanity - the cost to Him, not two denarii, but a pierced heart whose own life's blood is the wine that brings us back to life and heals us.
What you think about yourself is much more important than what others think of you.

LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR
The story of the Good Samaritan is prefaced by a dialogue between lawyer and the Lord. Jesus tells him, love God above all things and your neighbor as yourself. It finishes with the lawyer "anxious to justify himself" saying 'and who is my neighbour?'
A good question. In a world that strangles itself in work and the pursuit of material comfort we can easily get to a stage where no one exists outside of our immediate circle of family and friends. We lament that in our towns and villages we don't even know the person who lives beside us. This is no longer the way of London or New York; it's the way of Tullamore. Jesus says love your neighbour. 1 John 4:20 asks us 'how can you say you love God whom you have never seen when you do not love your brothers and sisters who you can?' Sometimes we have to look around and see who we live with, on your street, your estate, your community. The Church is built of living stones. Can I love my neighbour if I have never spoken to them?
CONGRATULATIONS
Our best wishes go to Fr Tony Gonoude and thanks to all who made the occasion of his ordination so special.
