STRONG AND FAITHFUL

In today’s world not much is permanent.  But the psalm tells us that Our Father’s love for us is.  It is strong, faithful and permanent.  It is also for everyone.

When we are tried and tested we need to hold onto that assurance.  The second reading says that God uses these trials, as would a father, to train us become persons, free within ourselves, and capable of loving.  Also the Gospel implies that if we have too much baggage, either internal or external, we’ll have difficulty getting through the narrow entrance door to life in all its fullness.

And yes, simply knowing the right people or belonging to the right group is no guarantee of an entrance ticket!

The fruit of peace is love and the fruit of love is forgiveness.

CLONMINCH CEMETERY DAY
Sincere thanks to all parishioners who made the ceremony so successful, especially Readers, Ministers of the Eucharist, Choir and those who helped to have everything presentable for the occasion.

CEMETERY DAY IN DURROW
Next Sunday, 2nd Sept, is cemetery day in Durrow.  Blessing of graves will take place after 11.30am Mass.

PARISH CENTRE
Work on the new parish centre is progressing very well so far.  The demolition of St Mary’s Hall was completed very quickly, and work on the foundation is now well advanced.  Good weather in the weeks ahead will make the task of the builders much easier, so we should continue to pray for fine weather.  Very shortly we will begin to draw on loans to meet our payments, so those who intend to contribute a once-off or annual sum could help greatly by doing so now.

FR JOHN’S 1ST FRIDAY CALLS
Fr John will be calling to all those on his 1st Friday list next Friday, 31st August.

‘People from east and west, from north and south, will come to take their place in the kingdom of God’.

This Gospel statement from Christ is a reminder to all that the fact of being baptised into God’s family is no guarantee that we will inherit the kingdom.  Those who abandon the Gospel and go their own way will find themselves excluded from God’s kingdom.  The result will be weeping and grinding of teeth.  Faith is the free gift of God to all of us.  As a gift it is to be treasured and nurtured as something most precious.  We should pray for the gift of strong faith and the courage to live the Gospel every moment of our lives.
