PARISH FINANCES: Our Financial Report for 2005 is made available today. You are invited to take a copy as you leave the Church. The report shows a small deficit of â¬9,231 for the year compared with â¬96,697 for 2004. This is due to an increase in contributions and a reduction in overall expenditure. We thank all who have so generously supported our parish throughout the year. We also continue to recommend the use of Standing Orders as a means of contributing to the Parish. A special word of thanks to the Envelope Collectors who worked so faithfully for the Parish over many years. We hope that your continued support of the Envelope Collection will be maintained throughout the year. The major project in the year ahead will be working towards the provision of a Parish Centre on the site of St Mary's Hall. We hope that a set of plans will be available shortly and that we can have a public meeting to present the proposal to all. Your support for the project will be all-important. You will have noticed that the Envelope Collection boxes are out of use at the moment. This is because of vandalism and attempted theft from the boxes. At present we are working on a better way of securing them. Meantime, we ask all contributors to continue to place their envelopes on the Collection Plate as it is passed around. Thank you.
THE RISEN CHRIST
The two disciples who met him on the road to Emmaus following his Resurrection describe âhow they recognised Jesus at the break of bread'!
When he appeared to the group of disciples assembled in the upper room at Jerusalem, they thought that he was a ghost; but Jesus showed them his hands and feet, allowed them to touch him and ate a piece of fish, to prove that he was/is alive.
He then opened their minds to understand the scriptures and said, âso you see how it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all the nations'. (Lk 24:35-48
Do we recognise Jesus, the Risen Christ at the breaking of bread in the Eucharist, and in his word, the Scriptures? And do we witness to this essential truth of our faith?
