FAITH OF OUR FATHERS As we prepare to celebrate the feast day of St Patrick, we thank God for the faith in Jesus Christ, which he instilled in our ancestors. The original words of the hymn in his honour come to mind: “We praise and thank you our Father above, who offer us peace in your kindgom of love, all have been saved by the death of your Son, who showed us the way that all might be one. Accepting this Gospel we honour St Patrick, who taught in our land what your kindness has done. Your Word has revealed what our future will be, ‘raised up from the earth I draw all people to me’, may we like St Patrick bear witness to you, reflecting your love in whatever we do. He came to our country which once had enslaved him, to preach the Good News that God makes all things new.” Enthusiasm is like fire; It needs both feeding and watching.
ST PATRICK’S DAY Tuesday next, 17th, is St Patrick’s Day. Masses are as follows: Vigil (Mon) 7.30pm, 8.30am, 10.00am, 11.30am & 1.00pm. No evening Mass. Beannachtai na Feile Phadraig oraibh go leir. TROCAIRE’S LENTEN CAMPAIGN In Sunday’s gospel we meet an angry Jesus. Sometimes it can be good to pause with the following questions; what today in our world would make our God of love and compassion angry? Columbia is perhaps just one place on our planet where there is a tremendous amount of unnecessary suffering and hardship. It is one of the world's worst humanitarian ‘hotspots’. More than four decades of conflict have forced about three million people from their homes in the countryside and left thousands more dead or injured. Perhaps the pain of the people living here causes God to feel angry. In response to this suffering, Trócaire is committed to improving life for those caught up in the crossfire, by supplying basic emergency assistance such as food, water and shelter. Trócaire is also helping communities to campaign for their human rights and for peace and is helping them back on their feet with small agricultural and animal projects. Please help Trócaire continue this lifeline to people in Colombia and around the world. Pick up a Trócaire box and support out Lenten campaign. www.trocaire.org
