  ALLELUIA

Our Easter Liturgy tells us to exult and rejoice because death is vanquished forever.
He is Risen.

Jesus said that He in Himself is Life and Resurrection and that He came that we too might have life - life in all its fulness.  So, if we are in a relationship with Him, who is Life itself - then we too live.

The refrain from an old hymn says: “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow....because I know He holds the future all fear is gone.”  Meaninglessness has gone too because we have the assurance of a future to hope for - a place waiting for us in our Father’s house.

Wishing all our parishioners a very happy Easter.

TROCAIRE

This week you have the opportunity to bring your Trocaire boxes back to either the Sacristy or the Parochial House.  This is our opportunity to take the Easter message of joy and hope and spread it to all the parts of the world.  By doing this we are showing solidarity with our neighbours all across the globe and spreading the real message of Christ, which will result in resurrection for these communities at this Easter time.  The offertory collection next weekend is to go Trocaire.

“In my Father’s house there are many rooms”.

Lent is over, and it is time to be joyful.  So we tend to think, as the mood of the liturgy moves to a joyful mode.  The real fruit of Lent should be a greater sense of closeness to Christ that comes from our reflections and our penances during that period.  Now it is important that we rejoice in our renewed sense of God’s presence and God’s closeness to us.  It is also important not to fragment our understanding of the Church’s year.  We don’t “do” Lent and then relax at Easter and slowly drift away from our sense of God’s closeness until we come to celebrate Christmas.  Then we prepare for the joy of Christmas, and proceed to drift again until Lent comes around.  Rather the year is one continuum with high points at Christmas and Easter.  Always we keep on even keel as one season flows into another, and we always keep our focus on the presence of God in our lives.  Easter and Resurrection is of course the highlight of our year, and our celebration is so organised that we can gain from it, great comfort and great hope for times of darkness and disappointment in our lives.  The Resurrection of Jesus remains the single most important event in human history.  Through our faith, and through our celebration of the Resurrection, let Easter be a time of real joy flowing from our honest effort to observe Lent and our new sense of God’s closeness to us.
Easter is above all a feast of hope as we reflect on the place that Jesus has promised us in his kingdom:
“In my Father’s house there are many rooms”.
