Martha! Martha! Jesus calls Martha by name twice. Across two millennia and a huge culture gap, it still sounds the same - a reminder to Martha to get a hold of herself! It doesn't sound right- Mary was supposed to help! And if Martha didn't feed them, where would Jesus and his friends go next time? Not to Martha's, for sure. But Jesus wasn't criticising Martha, her care, her cooking and her work are valued. What she did was good. Jesus came to proclaim the good news of the reign of God and Mary thought that was more important than housework. And it was - Mary chose something better. Can I let go of what I have to do, long enough to hear who I am called to be? If you were not around, NEW PARISH CENTRE The work of demolition of St Mary's Hall is now complete, and foundation work will commence after the end of the builders' holiday period. The main contractors for the construction are Townmore Construction Ltd, a Tullamore based firm, who have a number of projects in hand throughout the town. The final contract price is â¬1,973882.75. The plan is to have a new centre completed by the end of April 08. We will give an update on work as it progresses, not necessarily on a weekly basis, but as often as seems appropriate. PRAYER FOR FINE WEATHER Oftentimes our approach to prayer is like praying for fine weather, 'I'll give it a shot, but sure it won't make much difference!' But, we believe that God hears what we have to say because Jesus prays on our behalf. We finish most of our prayers with the words 'through Christ Our Lord. Amen'. Prayer is a powerful thing and through Jesus in prayer we talk to the Father of us all, the creator of everything that is. But why is he so hidden? Why doesn't he show Himself a bit more forcefully? Science tells us that the sun is the engine of the weather and of life, and even if it is hidden by clouds we still feel its effects. God has shown himself to us completely in Jesus and in Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit we dwell forever in the life of God. Most of the time we are not even aware of this great mystery. Now and again it shines brightly for us. But even if it doesn't, we should remember; clouds only hide the sun, they don't remove it. We are living temples of God.
