15 April 2024

For the week beginning on Sunday 20th. March 2022

Church Interior

In March, the Diocese of Meath begins its synodal pathway.
All members of the Christian community are invited to take part in this synodal process which will take place at various locations around the Diocese on the Tuesdays of Lent.
The meetings are moments of spiritual discernment, where we listen to God’s Word, and to God’s Spirit who speaks through the Baptised, to discern what God is saying to the Church at this time. As Bishop Deenihan said in his Lenten message: “By asking us to reflect on our experience of communion, participation, and mission in the life of our Church at parish level, Pope Francis is calling each of us to play our part in bringing about a new springtime for our Church”.

The meetings in our Deanery will be held in Kilbeggan Parish Centre, Harbour Road Kilbeggan, for four Tuesdays in March at 8.00pm.

You are welcome to come on a night which suits you, but in an attempt to spread the attendance, we have this flexible structure.

Tuesday 8th - those involved in the liturgical life of the parishes. Readers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, choir members, organists, stewards/collectors, sacristans, etc

Tuesday 15th - those involved in the administration of parish life parish staff, members of Parish Pastoral Councils, members of Parish Finance, Committees, members of Baptism Teams, Safeguarding Representatives, counters, those involved in prayer and apostolic groups, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Legion of Mary, Pioneer Association, Apostolate of Eucharistic Adoration, Teams of Our Lady, Meals-on-Wheels.

Tuesday 22nd - those involved in schools, pupils/students, teachers and school, staff, members of parents’ association, members of BOMs, those involved in youth organisations and sports groups, young people and parents of children and teenagers.

Tuesday 29th - Mass

The conflict in the Ukraine has caused much hardship, suffering and death in recent days. Many people have been asking their clergy what can be done.

Our  Diocese  has an excellent relationship with the Diocese of Iasi (in Romania) and three priests from there are working here.  Iasi is situated near the Ukrainian border and is currently struggling to cater for the thousands of Ukrainian refugees that are arriving there.  Bishop Deenihan been in contact with Bishop IosifPaulet, the Bishop of Iasi, and he has offered him our support.  Bishop Paulet acknowledged that assistance is badly needed, which would be gratefully received and would help to alleviate the appalling conditions that the people who are fleeing the Ukraine find themselves in.

If any individual wishes to contribute to this worthy cause, they may do so by leaving a donation into any or our church sacristies or into the Parish Centre.   Needless to say any such money would be spent, in its entirety, alleviating the suffering of the Ukrainian refugees in Romania.

This week we are publishing our annual financial statement for 2021. Copies are available in the churches and on the website.  On 31 December 2020 we had a parish debt of €99,790. Our aim was to reduce this to zero. We are pleased to report that we have achieved our goal.

This has been a very difficult year for everyone in so many ways, hopefully we are coming into better times. We acknowledge your generosity to the parish during the past year. We have succeeded in paying off our debt and in maintaining parish services and upkeep of parish buildings. This is a big achievement and we thank you. We ask for your continued support as we work together to build our community and to witness to the presence and work of God among us.

Jesus steps into the lives of the disciples to make them agents of God’s presence in the world (cf. Lk 5:1-11).  Peter is dejected because the fishermen’s work produced no catch.  At the word of Christ, their nets fill to breaking point. Peter had put his faith in this “Master” that spoke with authority.  He says, “At your word, I will let down the nets” (Lk 5:5).  After the miracle, he calls him “Lord.”  This calling of the disciples tells us that the Lord asks every vocation to the Priesthood to fill the nets of the Church with souls who know him.  He asks us to put out into the deep and place our faith in him.  Like Peter we do not have to be perfect but place our trust in his will.

As and from Monday 28th February 2022, the Church barrier will be open only from 7.00am until 11.30am to facilitate Mass goers.
