Parish Activities

VOCATIONS:
Today is Vocations Sunday.
At present there are seven students studying for the priesthood in the diocese.  Two will be ordained this summer, including Patrick Donnelly who spent some time with us here last year.  The collection today will go towards the support of all students studying for the priesthood.

Vocation: The Broad View.
When we speak of Vocation, we tend to restrict the notion to religious vocation, that is, a vocation to become a priest, a nun, or a religious brother.  In taking this restricted view, we overlook the fact of our primary vocation, which is the calling to follow Christ.  This vocation comes to us all when we are baptised as St Paul says, "into the body of Christ".  So on this Vocations Sunday, let us all recognise our primary vocation into the Body of Christ and pray for the grace to the faithful to it.

All must find satisfaction and fulfilment in their respective vocations.  It follows that those who are called to a religious vocation will find contentment and fulfilment in that vocation.  An interesting trend in vocations to the priesthood over the past number of years is that many of our seminarians come forward after a number of years pursuing another career.  The call comes, but it takes time to recognise it and accept it.  Another interesting trend is that some seminarians take time out during their years of formation in order to satisfy themselves that they truly have a vocation.  In the end, they come to realise that finding their true vocation is their happiness.  The same is true for all of us, whatever our career or station in life.  Today, let us pray that all who have the same primary vocation to follow Christ, will find true happiness in their specific vocation in life.

LAST CALL FOR TROCAIRE BOXES!  If you have forgotten your trocaire box, please have them into the Sacristy or Parochial House by next Sunday.  Amount collected so far is €39245.
