AM I READY TO CHANGE

We have all heard this Gospel many times over the years but did we really hear what Jesus was asking of us?  “Come follow me” (Mk 1:17).

Were these words just for the first disciples?  Have I already taken them on board in my life and am I committed to using the countless gifts He has given me?  We are not all called to go out into the world to fulfill our destiny; we can follow Him from where we are.

The response of the first disciples was immediate; their focus was on Jesus, not on their ability to deliver.  Although some of us are like Jonah, diverted from His call, He eventually wins us over.

Today, we are invited to launch out into a new way of life; coming alongside Jesus, trusting Him to help us to change and cooperate with His plan for us.  “Repents, believe in the Gospel”, (Mk1:15)

VESPERS & DAY FOR RELIGIOUS

On Sunday 28th, the Priests and Religious of the Diocese will gather with Bishop Deenihan to celebrate the blessing of candles and sung Vespers in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar at 4.00pm.   The homily will be preached by Fr John Harris OP, Provincial of the Irish Dominicans.   This is an annual gathering to celebrate the contribution of religious sisters, brothers and priests to our diocese - the Feast of the Presentation being the Day for Religious.

This year, the celebration will also mark the 40th anniversary of Bishop Smith’s Ordination as Bishop of Meath.  That is a significant milestone which should be celebrated and we wish Bishop Michael many more years of health and happiness.

All parishioners are welcome to attend this celebration in the Cathedral.

PARISH ENVELOPES
Parish Envelope boxes are being prepared for parishioners for the coming year.
If you would like to be added to the envelope list, please contact the Parish Centre or Sacristy.

DIACONATE ORDINATION
On Sunday 21st, Bishop Deenihan will ordain Anthony Kerr to the Diaconate in
Saint Mary’s Church, Drogheda.  A native of Navan, Anthony is currently on
Pastoral Placement in Drogheda and will be ordained to the Priesthood next year.
Do keep Anthony in your prayers at this time and pray too for those who are
discerning a call to priesthood and religious life.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK 2024 – COMMUNITIES OF SERVICE

Catholic Schools will take place from Sunday 21 to Saturday 27 on the theme of Catholic Schools as Communities of Service.  Christian service puts faith into action. In Catholic schools, as we study and look to Jesus Christ as our role model and Teacher, we come to a greater understanding of the depth of Christian service.  Jesus served every person regardless of creed, background, faith, social status or age.  He put faith into action by showing all those around him how our Heavenly Father is compassionate, courageous and forgiving.  Jesus didn’t just talk about His faith; He lived it.  We are called by faith to go into the world to share the love of God with all those we meet.  Each person, at every age, is called to become Christ for another by serving every person with a humble heart and with a generous spirit.  Resources are available at www.catholiceducation.ie

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPELS  Mark 1:14-20
… The Spirit of God who was at work in Jesus calling the disciples continues to work in our day and in our lives.  That is why the gospel message is one of GOOD NEWS.  When has your understanding of the gospel message led you to a different style of life?  Who was the ‘Jesus person’ through whom the call came to you?  To whom have you been a ‘Jesus person’ in this way?
