THE GOOD PERSON IS A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS

The Lord says through Isaiah that if we share with the needy two things will happen – our light will shine for others and our wounds will be quickly healed.  In the Gospel we are told that we are meant to be the salt of the earth, giving taste to the world.  If we don’t do so our own world becomes tasteless and others are denied the taste for life that we were called to give them.

The life of the trinity is one of relationship giving and receiving totally to each other.  By being salt and light we are helped to stretch beyond our native selfishness, giving room in our heart for the gift of God’s life.  But we also need to learn how to receive.  This too can be difficult for our egocentric pride.  However it will teach us two things that we need if we are to breathe in comfort on “the streets of Heaven”, humility and gratitude.

Our loving Father gives us now the opportunity to both give and receive so that we can share His joy in giving increased life to one another until we can enjoy together the fullness of life in “our Father’s House”.

TULLAMORE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL

The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) of Tullamore Parish has completed its term of office having being formed in 2019 for a three year term.

In our Parish we have been blessed with Parishioners who have willingly served as members of the Council; some have served for many years.  We acknowledge our indebtedness to them all: they have been so generous with their time and gifts to serve the people of the Parish.

Parish Pastoral Councils are leadership structures that enable priests and people to work together to build up dynamic Christian communities that are characterised by prayer, hospitality, mission and evangelisation.

We will shortly begin the process of establishing a new PPC and we will have more information on this process in the coming weeks.

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPELS

Matthew 5:13-16

Jesus uses the image of salt as something that makes food tasty.  Without salt food can be tasteless.  Who are the people who give zest to your life and make it enjoyable?  For whom have you done this?  When have you been particularly aware of your potential in this regard.

The second image is that of light.  Who have been the people who have been a light for you, particularly in moments of darkness?  For whom have you been a light?  Recall these experiences and give thanks.

The images of salt and light can also be applied to communities to which we belong, a family, a parish, or other group.  Thinking of the groups of which you are a member, how can their potential be enhanced to enrich the lives of members and offer them a guidinglight?  How can you make a contribution to this?
