Trócaire teams are already responding on the ground, and are ready to provide more life-saving assistance but need more resources. Any support the Parish can give to this Emergency Appeal will help the urgent work of Trócaire and their hardworking local partners. For more information see www.trocaire.org

LIST OF THE DEAD

November is the month when we pray especially for the dead.  An important tradition in Ireland is writing down the names of our departed friends and relations on the Altar List of the Dead.  The list is compiled every November and Mass is offered for those on it at all List of the Dead Masses in November and every first Friday for the coming twelve months.Take time with your family to write the list.  Think of family, friends and neighbours over the years.  Particularly remember those who have no one to pray for them.  Dead lists are available in the Church.  Please fill one out, if you would like to do so and drop into the sacristy or the Parish Centre over the coming weeks.

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL

(Mark 12:38-44)

The scribes are presented as ostentatious and devious, acting more out of self-interest than the love of God or people.  There can be an element of self-interest in each of us.  Perhaps there have been times when you have been disturbed by glimpsing in yourself‘other motives’ in your doing good. Recall when you were awakened to this fact.  Where was the good news for you in that awakening?

In material terms what the widow has to offer was very little.  Recall when you felt yourself called to give and gave even though you apparently had very little.  Perhaps you have had the experience of finding that what you thought was little and insignificant meant a great deal to another person.  Recall some of those moments.

At this critical moment for the church Pope Francis has called a synod and has invited all believers to make a contribution.  It’s easy for us to see this as a call for professional church people, clergy and religious.  They have always takencare of this kind of thing.  Now the call is that the voices of the little ones can be heard.  How can you help this to happen in your church community?

Given the COVID-19 precautionary measures, our churches are inaccessible for the faithful. Participation in the daily sacraments is beyond reach for them. Shalom World TV, a Catholic media ministry of the Shalom Ministries, is an official partner with the Vatican and is authorized to telecast papal liturgies directly via its free high-definition television channel. Shalom World is committed to producing free yet high-quality Catholic content such as Daily Mass, devotionals, shows, music, youth programs, children’s programs, conventions, retreats, and cultural exchange segments. The programming is absolutely free and can be watched live or on-demand. The most recent addition, in response to COVID-19, is a 4th channel to the existing 3 channels, for exclusive live telecast of daily Holy Mass around the clock, with special prayers for an end to coronavirus .

We are broadcasting Daily Mass Live from Saints Peter and Paul's Church, Portlaoise, Co. Laois at 10:00 am everyday during this challenging time.

Bishop Denis Nulty, Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin is our patron in Ireland  and Shalom World is endorsed by Catholic leaders from around the globe .
