UNIVERSAL SYNOD

Last Sunday, Pope Francis called the Church across the world to embark on a synodal process. “Synodal” comes from a Greek word meaning “walking together”.

Over the next two years, all Catholics across the world are invited to walk together in a process of “encounter, listening, and discernment”.

Today, Bishop Deenihan invites all of us in the Diocese of Meath to embark on this journey together and to participate actively in this process so that we can discern together.

What it is that God is asking of the Church at this time?

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL

(Mark 10:35-45)

Jesus had spent much time teaching his followers that discipleship was a life of service, a life of giving oneself for others.  In spite of that James and John were thinking of what they could get out of it.  For Jesus, for the apostles, and for each of us, the glory of God  is revealed when we allow God to work through us as we give ourselves for others. When have you found that you reach a fuller life, and others benefit, when you act in the spirit of service?

One of the great problems in a community, a parish, or an organisation, is when you have dome people jockeying for status and positions of power.  The good of the group and the people it serves take second place to personal prestige.  You have probably seen this happen.  Perhaps you have witnessed people with a spirit of service that allowed them to value the good of the group over personal rewards.  Recall them and give thanks for their witness.

Jesus himself is the great model of this spirit of service.  Think of the aspects of Jesus’ life and ministry that have inspired you to imitate his giving of his life for others.

Shalom World is committed to producing free yet high-quality Catholic content such as Daily Mass, devotionals, shows, music, youth programs, children’s programs, conventions, retreats, and cultural exchange segments. The programming is absolutely free and can be watched live or on-demand. The most recent addition, in response to COVID-19, is a 4th channel to the existing 3 channels, for exclusive live telecast of daily Holy Mass around the clock, with special prayers for an end to coronavirus .

We are broadcasting Daily Mass Live from Saints Peter and Paul's Church, Portlaoise, Co. Laois at 10:00 am everyday during this challenging time.
