OUR PARISH DEBT AND THE PROGRESS WE HAVE MADE
Over the last few years we have been working hard to pay off the parish debt. The finance committee are very pleased to announce that this has now been achieved.
This is a great achievement and particularly during these difficult times of pandemic. It is testimony to the generosity and support of the people of the parish.
There have been numerous fundraising events and there is the constant support through the weekly envelope and church plate collections. There has been a very careful monitoring of expenditure and this coupled with the outgoing support of parishoners, has enabled us to continue to run the parish and make our debt repayments.
We are now in a position to plan ongoing maintenance and upgrading our parish facilities, much of which has been postponed as we focused on eliminating our debt.
We ask for your continued support and we thank you for your generosity as we continue to work together to build and sustain our parish community.
To the people of the parish we say Thank You.

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL
(Mark 10:17-30)
We often get satisfaction from the things we own, clothes, cars, homes, gadgets, or money. There would be something unnatural if we did not. But what happens to us when our possessions begin to “own” us, when they take a hold of us, when we become obsessed with them? Jesus seeks followers who have the freedom to let go of possessions in order to be a servant of others. In whom have you seen this freedom? When have you experienced it yourself?
Growth Implies change. That change sometimes means letting go of something we have at the moment: job, status, home, security or something else we value. There can be an apparent loss in letting go. Yet have you ever found that you gained by having the freedom to let go of something to which you had previously clung?
The disciples thought that Jesus was making impossible demands of people following him. He acknowledged that discipleship was impossible to us on our own efforts alone. How have you experienced the benefits of the help of others and of God when you were faced with difficulties in life?

Given the COVID-19 precautionary measures, our churches are inaccessible for the faithful. Participation in the daily sacraments is beyond reach for them. Shalom World TV, a Catholic media ministry of the Shalom Ministries, is an official partner with the Vatican and is authorized to telecast papal liturgies directly via its free high-definition television channel. Shalom World is committed to producing free yet high-quality Catholic content such as Daily Mass, devotionals, shows, music, youth programs, children’s programs, conventions, retreats, and cultural exchange segments. The programming is absolutely free and can be watched live or on-demand. The most recent addition, in response to COVID-19, is a 4th channel to the existing 3 channels, for exclusive live telecast of daily Holy Mass around the clock, with special prayers for an end to coronavirus .
We are broadcasting Daily Mass Live from Saints Peter and Paul's Church, Portlaoise, Co. Laois at 10:00 am everyday during this challenging time.
Bishop Denis Nulty, Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin is our patron in Ireland and Shalom World is endorsed by Catholic leaders from around the globe .
