The Scott Building is a four storey protected structure designed by the renowned Irish architect, Michael Scott in 1938. When completed, it opened as  Tullamore General Hospital and served county Offaly and surrounding areas until the new hospital opened next door in 2007. It took a further 2 years to transfer all existing esrvices to the new building.

Shortly afterwards work began on the refurbishment of the old limestone building and it was ready for occupation in late 2016. Now a varied range of services operate from there, including: Doctors on call rooms; Laois Offaly Mental Health Services; TUSLA; Consumer Affairs Department; Nursing & Midwifery Planning and Development; Health Promotion and Improvement; the National Lead Office - F.O.I.; hospital administrative offices, and others.

The current Minister for Health, Simon Harris T.D., officially opened the Scott Building on Thursday, January 5th. at 11:00 a.m. During his speech, the minister outlined his plans for dealing with the huge number of patients on trollies. <Click Here> for a brief video.
