fathersean             Message for 2012 from Seán Heaney P.P.

I take this opportunity to wish all parishioners a Happy New Year. Our first Reading of the Mass of New Year's Day (the Feast of the Motherhood of Mary) contains this blessing: “May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord let his face shine on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord uncover his face to you and bring you peace."

We look forward to a good year in the Parish during 2012. Our Year of Faith will continue with the programme already publicised as a fitting way to celebrate 25 years of our Church in Tullamore.  We will also focus on the Eucharistic Congress, which will be held in Dublin in June, and much of our work will emphasise the need for us to prepare well for the Congress.  The success of the Congress will depend on how we see it as an opportunity to renew and deepen our faith in the Eucharist. Not everybody will wish or will be able to attend the Congress; we can, however, share in the event by sharing in the liturgies and other local events that will precede the Congress. We hope finally to promote the season of Lent as a time of true Penance.

We are very aware of the economic situation in our country at present. Nevertheless, we have succeeded in successfully meeting all our commitments towards paying off our loan on the Parish Centre during 2011.  For your generosity in the past year we say a very sincere “thank you all”. Our only request is that all will continue to support our Parish to the best of your ability during 2012.

Finally, we look forward to the celebration of First Communion and Confirmation by many of our school children in the year ahead. We ask their parents to continue to help and encourage them as they look forward to these great moments in their lives.  Your help and support for them is vital for them, and rewarding for yourselves. May these events be very special days in the life of each family.

Sean Heaney, P.P.
