Sister Veronica Gilsenan who died on Friday 16th September 2016  at the Convent of Mercy, Tullamore was originally from a farming family who lived at Moynalty in Co. Meath.

She entered the convent in 1918 aged 18 years and spent her early years as a nun in Mullingar. She then transferred to Tullamore where as a trained nurse she spent many years as public health nurse which brought her into direct contact with a large number of people in the area.

In addition to her work as a nurse, Sister Veronica was very active in a number of voluntary organisations especially the wheelchair association and in the provision of social housing in Tullamore.

Her voluntary work was very much appreciated in the area and this was demonstrated publically when she was awarded the title “Tullamore Person Of The Year” by the local Junior Chamber organisation and again when she was presented with an award by the Offaly Association, Dublin as an outstanding personality in the area.

Her funeral Mass was celebrated by a number of priests in The Church Of The Assumption on Monday and she was buried afterwards in St. Mary's Cemetery, Moynalty, Co. Meath.

She will be sadly missed by the people of Tullamore and in particular by her community in the Convent Of Mercy.  May the Lord have mercy on her soul and may Sister Veronica truly Rest in Peace.
