BARRIERS

Some of us are very lackadaisical when it comes to our faith.  We blame God for our deficiencies.  We even try to ignore His very existence.  We make excuses and put in place all kinds of barriers.

The Canaanite woman in today's Gospel should give us all hope.  She did not give up when Jesus ignored her.  Her faith was strong and so she persisted in getting through to Jesus.  He eventually listened and when He spoke, His words were profound, "woman you have great faith, let your wish be granted".

So let our faith be unwavering.  Let us work hard at it and barriers can be broken down, thus leading us to God.

WORLD YOUTH DAY PILGRIMS

Four parishioners will be part of a group of 67 young people from the Diocese who will join Bishop Smith for World Youth Day in Cologne, along with Pope Benedict and nearly 1 million  other young people from around the world.
Those travelling from Meath Diocese, will partake in what's called "Days in the Diocese" before heading on to Cologne.  In the Diocese of Hildesheim, where the body of St Oliver Plunkett was kept for years after his execution, the young pilgrims are to be hosted by families so as to experience life, faith and culture in a German community.
They will also visit Bergen Belsen concentration camp to mark 60 years since its liberation.  While in Cologne, they will join in the week long programme with Pope Benedict.
Please remember the group in your prayers from 10th-22nd Aug, as they will you and the people, young and old, of the Diocese.

I recognise my beauty and that of others.
Focus on the beauty within yourself, your kindnesses, your gifts.
Everyone has some beauty in their soul,
so seek it also in others.
