WORLD YOUTH DAY PILGRIMS

Four parishioners will be part of a group of 67 young people from the Diocese who will join Bishop Smith for World Youth Day in Cologne, along with Pope Benedict and nearly 1 million  other young people from around the world.  Those travelling from Meath Diocese, will partake in what's called "Days in the Diocese" before heading on to Cologne.  In the Diocese of Hildesheim, where the body of St Oliver Plunkett was kept for years after his execution, the young pilgrims are to be hosted by families so as to experience life, faith and culture in a German community.  They will also visit Bergen Belsen concentration camp to mark 60 years since its liberation.  While in Cologne, they will join in the week long programme with Pope Benedict.  Please remember the group in your prayers from 10th-22nd Aug, as they will you and the people, young and old, of the Diocese.

‘DO NOT BE AFRAID'

When Peter felt "the force of the wind, he took fright and began to sink".  Even if our faith falters and we panic when we look at the dangers surrounding us, Jesus - even though he is with the Father - will come and save us.  This is Gospel.  This is Good News indeed.

God supported both Elijah and Peter when their faith didn't match their zeal for their tasks.  That promise is extended to all who put their faith in God and in His Son, Jesus Christ.  Often when we feel we are battling against the odds, we wonder why Jesus always seems to be off somewhere else.

Even though we know that we won't be asked to walk on water, we get that sinking feeling all the same.  In that plight we are not thrown on our own resources.  In our community, gathered in Faith, we have the Word of God, the Bread of Life and the support of each other.  Surely that is enough to keep us afloat.

I am generous hearted.
The rewards for generosity are great,
for all that you give from an open heart,
is returned to you multiplied.
