Have you seen the Trócaire ad on the TV this year? It shows an interview with a young girl who is forced into child labour. She is one of 253,000 young Nicaraguans in this position. Only 40% of working children in Nicaragua receive an income for their work. The rest work hard days with little hope for their futures and do not even get paid.
"Lord help me to act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with you, my God.

HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY
The blessing of a loving mother nobody can measure.
You cannot put into words of price this precious treasure...
She suffers when you suffer and she shares in your success.
She works for you and wishes for your health and happiness.
Your love express in words before she passes on her way-
then there'll be no sadness over what you failed to say...
It is now that kindness counts; we sometimes leave too late,
a thank you for some little thing that we appreciate.

 Our greatest glory is not
in never falling, but
in rising every time we fall.

  WHY ARE WE NOT LISTENING?

In the readings today, we are reminded that throughout history God always sent prophets to talk to his people when they were ‘going astray'.  It is the same today but we refuse to listen.  Yet, "God loved the world so much that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life..." (Jn 3:17)

We still reject his message.  How are our actions or lack of action shutting out God's message of love and justice?  Why is there so much violence on our streets and in homes, family life falling apart, a binge culture of drink and drugs etc.

Let us take a good hard look at ourselves and our society and face up to some of the hard truths.  This way we can begin to listen to God's message and begin to act.
