MASS OF THANKSGIVING
Fr Andre Kabore will offer the 11.30 Mass next Sunday, 16th,  as a Mass of Thanksgiving for the people of the parish.

 "Content with Weakness"

Despite the seeming failure of His life, Jesus points beyond Himself to the power of the Father.  His Cross points beyond His brokenness to the glory of the Resurrection.

Being "content with our weakness" is not something that comes easy to most of us, educated to be content with nothing less than perfection.  We must believe that our weaknesses are not a problem for God, as if God had no time for poor achievers.  If we accept this, it will change our image of God and help us to realise that God's grace does work through human frailty.

We know from experience that when we admit our failures and limitations, the exercise in honesty can mark the beginning of a new understanding.  If God can take failure in His stride, we might end up with St Paul, "boasting" of our own!

"Among the ruins of Pompeii there are markings on a wall of what was once a tavern.  These jottings show the credit extended to customers.
All accounts are marked paid, except one - a debt that will be
forever unpaid.  For one day, with staggering suddenness,
Vesuvius erupted, the lava flowed and all in Pompeii was frozen
at its particular stage of accomplishment or non-accomplishment.
We have debts of kindness to be paid to our friends and neighbours,
and we must not miss the chance to meet these debts
now while we are able; for the danger is that these obligations
will be unfulfilled: debts forever standing against us."
Taken from ‘Reflections ... path to prayer', by James Turro.
