TAKING UP THE CROSS
"If anyone would follow me, they must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me". (Mark 8:34)
Most of us would answer, you are the Christ if Jesus asked us, Who do you say I am?" (Mk 8:29) What we might have some difficulty with is saying "Yes" to the cross. And yet, that is the response He expects from âtrue' disciples.
It is most unlikely we will ever be asked to carry a cross, but when we accept suffering or ill-health; share a person's mental or physical pain; try to accept others for who they are; live out the commandments - especially loving our neighbour; or live with addictions, for example; then we can lay claim to the cross.
We pray for the grace to carry whatever cross is hurting us today.
