YOU ARE MY SON, THE BELOVED

At the baptism of Jesus, the Holy Spirit descended upon him, and God the Father proclaimed: "you are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you".

Likewise, we receive the Holy Spirit and become the adopted sons and daughters of God, when we are baptised.

John the Baptist explained that he baptised with water, but Jesus would baptise us with the Holy Spirit.

St Paul says that Jesus saved us by means of the cleansing water of rebirth, and by renewing us with the Holy Spirit.

Through baptism we become children of the Father, members of the extended Christian family of Jesus Christ, temples of the Holy Spirit, and heirs to the kingdom of heaven.
