PARISH ACTIVITIES

 FIRST COMMUNION

Congratulations to the children from Scoil Mhuire & Ballinamere NS, who received the Eucharist for the first time yesterday.  We wish God's blessing on them, their families, friends and teachers and all who helped them on their faith journey to this special time.

 VOCATIONS SUNDAY
28th April is Vocations Sunday.  At present there are six students from the Diocese studying for the priesthood - three in Maynooth & three in Rome.  Among them is our parishioner Tony Gonoude, who will be ordained to the priesthood in July of this year and whom we remember especially in our prayers.

The collection today will go towards the support of all students studying for the priesthood for the diocese.

"My Sheep Hear My Voice"

The Gospel on Sunday is not simple.  Jesus addresses our need for belonging, promises eternal life, describes the power of God and astounds with the statement: "the Father and I are one".  There is an awful lot going on there - but it begins with hearing.

Hearing can mean both receiving sound and understanding sound.  We really cannot understand the power of God, or the mystery of God or what eternal life really means.

But we can understand the voice of Jesus - as sheep understand a shepherd's voice or as a child hears a mother's voice.  And we feel comfort and protection and a sense of belonging.
