THE JOURNEY OF FAITH
In the first reading we see Elijah has had some success in bringing people to worship the Lord but now he needs help so he comes in search of guidance and consolation. He found that God was not in the noise around hm but in the quiet breeze. We too, need to find some quiet moments to find God deep within ourselves.
In Romans 9 we find Paul experiencing his own incapacity to spread his enthusiasm and zeal among his own people. Perhaps there are times when we too, experience this difficulty. We are unable to influence our own family, our neighbours, our friends and we tend to give into our fears! Note, however, Paul’s union with Christ and the Holy Spirit gives him assurance. He ends by exclaiming: ‘God forever be blest’. In the Gospel we see Jesus in prayer while the Apostles are experiencing a rough crossing on the lake. Jesus appears to them walking on the water. They do not recognise him so they are afraid. Jesus tells them ‘to have courage’ that ‘it is I’. Peter, of course, wants to do the same as Jesus so he asks: ‘bid me come to you upon the water’. Peter started to walk on the water but took fright and began to sink! Jesus says to him, ‘man of little faith, why did you doubt”. We, too, can run into rough seas on our journey so we slacken off or give up altogether! These are the times we need to keep our eyes on Jesus and call to him as Peter did. God waits 24 hours a day for us to call. No need of a mobile!

GREETINGS FROM THE PHILIPPINES I'm back home after a month in Ireland. I just would like to take this opportunity to thank all my friends in Tullamore for the warm welcome, fond memories and generosity of heart. I couldn't believe I'd be back for a visit after four years. God is so good! A special thank you to Ann and Jim Quinn, my host family who made me feel like a part of the family and to Lily Daly and Ann Scully for organizing the Monday night prayer service and tea at the day chapel and to all who came to say goodbye. Thanks to website team for covering that night, sorry you didn't know beforehand I was "home" for a visit. Thanks to Sr. Marguerite for all the help and kindness and to Grainne & Esther Lawless & friends. I have been so blessed to have known so many lovely people and good friends in Tullamore. I can't fit all their names here. God bless you all. Praying for you. <P> Please extend my gratitude to Fr. Shane Crombie for having taken the time to see me at the day chapel on Monday 21st July. Our 'kneeling down' didn't do the trick with the LCD projector but it was the people who brought the Lord with them that made it a lovely evening just the same. :-) Kudos to the website team for keeping website alive and well. Regards and God bless!
