GODS WAYS ARE NOT OUR WAYS

 “In the first readings Isaiah tells us that God’s ways are not our ways!  Certainly the Gospel message is not our way of dealing with employees!

An employer hires workers at different times during the day.  He agrees to give the first their usual wage and the others what is their right.  That evening they all get paid the same amount.

It makes no sense for the workers who came at the end of the day to be paid the same as those who started at dawn and carried the burden of the labour in the heat of the day.  Naturally they grumble as they expected more!  Why should they all be treated the same?

The parable challenges our deeply held views!  The point it makes is that God’s blessings and rewards are received out of His goodness and love, not on the basis of our merit or length of service!

Lord, help us to be generous and forgiving towards others.  May we always rejoice in each others gifts and rewards.

It is not those who have little, but those who always want more, who are poor.

PARISH MISSION
From September 29th to October 3rd there will be a Mission in Tullamore, coinciding with the feast of the Little Flower.  It will be conducted by the St Patrick's Missionary team, a group of young men and women who have devoted themselves to share their faith and hopefully help us all to live our lives to the full, reflecting the goodness of God. They are joined by John Pridmore, an ex gangster, who was involved in violence, drugs and most horrible crime until he had an experience of God which changed everything.

A Mission is a time for a parish to start again, a time of renewal and discovery of God.  It is for all ages, young and old.  Invite your family and friends to come along, particularly those who have given up on faith and life.  This Mission will help us all to see that life is worth living, and remind us that we are made in the image and likeness of God who loves us.  It could be the invitation that someone is desperately looking to receive.
From Monday to Thursday, the early Mass for the Mission has been changed from 7.45 to 7.00am to facilitate students and workers and there will also be Mass at 10.00am and a mission talk followed by Benediction at 7.30pm.  It promises to be great few days.

This is the programme:
Monday Sept 29: GOD'S LOVE;
Tuesday Sept 30: GOD'S MERCY;
Wednesday Oct 1: GOD'S HEALING;
Thursday Oct 2:GOD'S GIFT OF MARY;
7.00am, 10.00am & 7.30pm
Friday Oct 3: THE HOLY SPIRIT, 7.30pm Mass of the Holy Spirit. A chance to start again.   No early morning or 10.00am Mass on this day.
