Listen

“O that today you would listen to His voice, harden not your hearts”.  So we are meant to listen with our hearts, not just our heads.

The same goes for how we listen to each other.  In the second reading, St Paul says that “love is the one thing that cannot hurt your neighbour and that is why it is the answer to every commandment”.

This is easier to read than to do, because genuine love at times requires self sacrifice - something we all find difficult.  However, when we try to live it and come together in His name, be it even two of us, then, Jesus tells us in today’s Gospel, He is there with us.  He, who is Love, is actually present.

Remember that we can say to Him, in the words of one of the Psalms:
“Lord, show me the path of life,
the fulness of joy in your Presence,
at your right hand happiness forever”.

“THE CHURCH IS HOME TO EVERYONE”

This week we are launching new initiatives in our parish programme for the coming year.  This arises out of our reflection through the PPC with Parish Groups and parishioners, on the needs at this time.

We have identified four areas: young adults; newly arrived citizens from other countries; sick, elderly  and housebound; and people from broken or second relationships  These are the main areas where we can develop better programmes.

Our first consideration is that our faith is centred on the person of Jesus Christ. We have adopted as our motto “The Church is home to everyone”.

Our main resource for our new initiatives is the people of the parish, and we hope to challenge everyone to be more positive about our faith and our parish, and to make our welcome real for all.

We are appealing to those who have drifted away from their practice of the faith.  We will be hoping to keep our liturgy alive in new ways.  Our emphasis will be on Parish as community, with everybody conscious that we can all share in the work of evangelisation, or more importantly, re-evangelisation.

Our hope is that our new parish centre will be of great help in promoting our new initiatives.    In the name of Jesus Christ let us pray for each other.

People want to know how much you care before they care how much you know.
