When we are unable to find tranquility within ourselves, it is useless to seek it elsewhere.

We Must Speculate to Accumulate!

How apt is today’s gospel in our current problematic world?  More than ever, we need people with talents to take risks!  Matthew, throughout his gospel, is constantly drawing our attention to the fact that ‘fear’ can cripple discipleship and prevent us from being true followers of Jesus Christ.  In today’s parable of the talents, Jesus leaves us in no doubt about his expectations of us.  Playing it safe, being complacent, being neutral and lacking in initiative, are not characteristics He expects of us.  On the contrary, He demands we take risks, that we are proactive, using our gifts and talents for the sake of the kingdom of God.

The servant in the parable was not punished for misusing the talent but rather because he simply did not bother to use it at all.  Remember, doing something, no matter how small or insignificant, is better than doing nothing.  In Christ’s eyes, what is important is our willingness to take risks, to use our talents in the service of the Gospel - always aware that the effort matters more than the results.  If we need further evidence of the importance of risk, we should remember that God himself took the greatest of all risks; He sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world and by so doing gave humanity the best chance it has ever had.

Remember, “God loves you, He wants to deal with what you can do right now.  Because ‘now’ is all you can change.”

“THE CHURCH IS HOME TO EVERYONE”

Next weekend, Saturday 22nd/Sunday 23rd,  we are inviting those who have not been coming to Mass regularly to join us on a “welcome  back” day.  We ask you to invite members of your own family or your friends to join us on this one Sunday with a view to being better tuned in to the celebration of Christmas.  The success of this weekend depends on you issuing the invitation to those who have been absent for some time.

The need for all to find hope through faith in Jesus Christ is more obvious than ever in these times of economic downturn, and we should be firm in promoting this aspect of our faith.  It may be noted that Barack Obama, in his acceptance speech, laid great emphasis on the need for people to be able to hope.  While he did not offer this thought in a Christ-centred context, we can feel confident that our hope in Jesus Christ is well founded, and those who lose that sense of hope are missing an essential quality from their lives.

RELIGIOUS GOODS SHOP

The Shop will be open Wednesday to Friday 10.30am-1.00pm and on Saturdays from 10.30am-4.00pm.

It will also open after all Masses on the weekend of Nov 29/30 so that all may visit to see the fare on offer.  Sunday opening however will not be the norm.

All types of Mass cards are now on sale.  If you wish to have these cards signed, a priest will be available to sign them on request.
