LOVE

Love, not hate, is at the centre of the Christian message.  This love should be rooted in prayer.  If we love God with all our heart, it means giving ourselves totally to him in an intimate relationship through prayer and worship.  We cannot ignore our neighbour if we claim to love God.  It is through word and action that we become fully and totally Christian.

The entire story of salvation, to know that God is love, is reassuring, “come to me all who labour and are heavily burdened”, he said, “and I will give you rest”.

As Michael Paul Gallagher once put it, “to claim to love Jesus but not their neighbour is not love”.  The Lord demands demonstration of that love.  It is through word and action that we become fully and totally Christian.  Love demands that I learn how to focus my attention on the needs of those I love.

Alfred Lord Tennyson put it years ago:  “Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all”.

BANK HOLIDAY

Mass tomorrow will be at 10.00am only.

NOVEMBER MONTH OF REMEMBERING

FEAST OF ALL SAINTS

Wednesday 1st is the Feast of All Saints.  Mass times are as follows:

Durrow Vigil (Tuesday) 8.00pm;

Tullamore  7.45am, 10.00am, 1.10pm, 6.30pm.

FEAST OF ALL SOULS

Thursday 2nd is the Feast of All Souls.  Masses will be at 7.45am, 10.00am & 6.30pm.

Norms for Indulgences at the Commemoration of All Souls

From 12 o’clock noon on 1st November until midnight on 2nd November, all who have confessed, received Holy Communion and prayed for the Pope’s intentions (one Our Father and Hail Mary, or any other prayer of one’s choice) can gain one Plenary Indulgence by visiting a church or oratory, and there reciting one Our Father and the Apostles’ Creed.  This indulgence is applicable only to the souls of the departed.

Confession may be made at any time within the week preceding or the week following 1st November.  Holy Communion may be received on any day from 1st November to 8th November.

The faithful who visit a cemetery and pray for the dead may gain a Plenary Indulgence applicable only to the Holy Souls on the usual conditions once per day from 1st to 8th November. The conditions mentioned above apply also for this.

MASS FOR THE BEREAVED

The 10.00am Mass on Saturday 4th will be for all families in our Parish who have lost a loved one during the year.

NIGHT OF LIGHT CELEBRATION OF HALLOWEEN

Halloween means ‘the evening of the saints’ and while it has been redesigned by culture as a night of goblins and ghouls, the whole idea of Halloween is the preparation for the great feast of All Saints Day on November 1st.  Let’s celebrate on Tuesday 31st at 6.00pm in the Parish Centre. Children are invited to come along dressed as…their favourite Saint!
