On this day we think of struggling parishes in the growing church throughout Africa, South America, Asia and Oceania. A retiring collection will be taken up which will help over 1100 young dioceses and provides assistance to communities for them to build schools, health centers, parish halls and churches. It also supports in the education of future leaders in faith. LIST OF THE DEAD November is the month when we pray especially for the dead. November 1st is the Feast of all Saints and November 2nd is the commemoration of the Faithful Departed (All Souls). An important tradition in Ireland is writing down the names of our departed friends and relations on the Altar List of the Dead. The list is compiled every November and Mass is offered for those on it, at all List of the Dead Masses in November and every First Friday for the coming twelve months. Take time with your family to write the list. Think of family, friends and neighbours over the years. Particularly remember those who have no one to pray for them. Dead List forms are available in the Church. Please fill one out, if you would like to do so, and drop it into the Sacristy or the Parish Centre. ALTAR SERVERS Primary School children from 3rd Class up are invited to join our Altar Servers Team. If your child is interested in becoming an Altar Server, please collect a form from the Sacristy after Mass or contact the Parish Centre during the week. GET INVOLVED! Getting involved in your Parish can be a very enjoyable experience! There are lots of different ways to participate and make a difference. We are looking for Readers of the Word, Eucharistic Ministers, people to help with our hospitality/welcoming group and to help with the plate collections in the Church. So why not put your name forward to play a part in your Parish. Volunteer forms will be available next weekend. NIGHT OF LIGHT CELEBRATION OF HALLOWEEN Halloween means ‘the evening of the saints’ and while it has been redesigned by culture as a night of goblins and ghouls, the whole idea of Halloween is the preparation for the great feast of All Saints Day on November 1st. Let’s celebrate on Tuesday 31st at 6.00pm in the Parish Centre. Children are invited to come along dressed as…their favourite Saint! SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPELS Matthew 22:15-21 The story sees a mixture of religion and politics, a potentially explosive combination. Jesus does not ask us to avoid politics, but that our involvement in the affairs of the world be informed by the perspective of the Reign of God. How does the gospel give you a vision of how your involvement in society should be? Pharisees and Herodians were not natural allies but a shared dislike of Jesus brought them together in an attempt to discredit him. Perhaps you experience the same opposition in society today when you profess to being a Catholic. Jesus did not get into an argument with them but simply professed his belief in the priority of God in his life. What have you found helpful in bearing witness to the fact that you are still a Catholic? Jesus recognises that we can be faced with conflicting claims for attention. He does not tell us how to solve that dilemma but challenges us to make sure that our allegiance to God takes priority. When have you been faced with a conflict of loyalties? What helped you to get your priorities right? BLESSINGS FOR THE NEW WEEK May your week ahead be filled with: Blessings of good health, strength, friendship, kindness, compassion and love. May God bless you and your loved ones and keep you safe.
