SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPELS

Matthew 5:38-48

Jesus tells us to act out of love and says that acting out of love is better than acting out of revenge.  What does your experience tell you?

Perhaps you have at times hit back in revenge when you have been hurt or offended.  What effect did this have on you, on others, and on your relationship with them?  Contrast this with the times when you resisted the urge to retaliate.  What outcome did this have on you, on others, and on your relationship with them … at the time, and in the long-term?

From other passages in the gospels it is clear that Jesus did not mean that we should ignore injustices, and never make a stand against others.  What lessons have you learned in life on when, and how, to make a stand?  What wisdom would you share with others from your experience?

DAY OF PRAYER FOR VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS OF ABUSE FEB 24TH

The proposal for a universal day of prayer was initially made in 2016 to the Vatican’s Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors (PCPM) by a survivor of clerical abuse.  At the time a press release from the Commission stated, “In the experience of our members, victims/survivors have often expressed a desire for prayer as an important element in their healing process.”

In response Pope Francis invited bishops around the world to establish a special day of prayer in the Church year to support the paths of human and spiritual recovery. This day is not only for victims and survivors, who have been so severely injured, either inside or outside the Church, but also for families and communities affected by grief for their loved ones.

Bishop Deenihan will lead the Meath Diocesan observation of this day with Prayer and a Candle lighting at 7:45am Mass in Mullingar Cathedral.  We will also have our own candle lighting in Tullamore Church.

PARISH PASTORAL ASSEMBLY

Tullamore Parish has had a Parish Pastoral Council for many years.  There is now a diocesan initiative to have such a group in every parish which will be known as the Parish Pastoral Assembly.  The term of office for our current group has expired and we are now in the process of establishing a new one.

The Parish Pastoral Assembly is a faith-filled, consultative body of the faithful, through which priests and people work together as co- responsible partners in furthering the mission of Christ in their own parish.  Through this partnership a vibrant Christian community, rooted in baptism and marked by its faith, worship and service can continue to be nurtured.

We invite parishioners to volunteer to serve on this group or to nominate somebody else.  The new assembly will have a 4 year term of office and will assist in the running and development of our parish.  Nomination forms are available in the Church or in the Parish Centre.
