IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO REPENT

The readings today offer us the opportunity to reflect on God’s mercy, love and compassion.  A common theme found in all the readings is God’s openness and readiness to receive and welcome us back irrespective of our faults and failings.

Each of the three gospel stories gives us a sense of how merciful and compassionate Jesus is towards us all.  In spite of our human frailties and stubbornness, the welcoming arms of Jesus remain open to receive us.  The compassion and mercy of Jesus is available at all times.  Many of us at times can identify with the ‘Prodigal Son’ in the parable but we may not always have his courage, confidence and humility to seek forgiveness and reconciliation.  Jesus like the father of errant son will greet us with joy and happiness.

The response of the father to both his sons also provides us with food for thought as it teaches us that the compassion and love of Jesus is extended both to the righteous person and the sinner alike.  When we are lost and seek repentance and reconciliation, how could we not rejoice and celebrate as God has made our return very easy through Jesus.

GET INVOLVED!

Getting involved in your Parish can be a very enjoyable experience!  There are lots of different ways to participate and make a difference.  We are looking for people to help out as Readers, Eucharistic Ministers, members of hospitality/welcoming group, Plate Collectors & Music Ministry in the Church.  So why not put your name forward to play a part in your Parish.  Forms are available in the Church.  Please complete and return to the Sacristy or the Parish Centre.  We also thank all of you who already help us in any way to keep our Churches and parish going.

FR. LUKE RECEIVES A NEW DIOCESAN APPOINTMENT

Fr. Luke has been appointed as curate with pastoral duties in Clara and in Tubber parishes. He will be resident in Horseleap with a shared ministry between the two parishes. He has been with us here in Tullamore for the past 6 years and we will miss him. He has been very much part of our parish during very challenging times and we have appreciated his dignified and prayerful presence among us.  His ministry to young people in our schools, to couples preparing for marriage, to the sick at home and in hospital, to the needy, to families in time of bereavement, to prayer groups, his patient listening and thoughtful advice, these have all been part of his committed and gentle ministry.  We wish him well in his new appointment and may God continue to bless him and his work.

Fr. Joe.

DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES

The Diocesan Pilgrimage will travel to Lourdes on Monday 12th led by Bishop Deenihan.  It is special to be able to return to Lourdes after an absence of two years due to travel restrictions.  It is a time to remember all who have suffered, those who have died during this pandemic. A time to remember the health care workers and those who helped and cared for us during those difficult days.

In Lourdes our Blessed Lady appeared to St. Bernadette 18 times and she gave this message:

“Go and tell the priests to build a chapel here and that people should come in procession”.  It is in answer to this request of Our Lady that pilgrims go to Lourdes.  It is a place of grace and healing and nobody returns home without receiving something special.

During the Pilgrimage there will be prayers said and Masses offered for the people of the diocese.  It is an opportunity for the people of the diocese to unite in prayer and a time of blessing. The opening Mass for the pilgrimage will be celebrated at the Grotto on Tuesday 13th at 7.30am (Irish time) and will be available on the Lourdes webcam.
