FAITH IS A JOURNEY

As Jesus returns to his father, St. Luke concludes his Gospel by recounting the instruction given by Jesus to His disciples to be witness of His message to all nations.  He calls on them to proclaim that God loves us so much that He sent His only son to live among them and by His death and resurrection gained for them eternal life.

Today, through the gospel, the same challenge and instruction is asked of us.  We are called to be Christ’s witnesses in our homes, with our families and among our friends and neighbours in our local communities.  Jesus challenges us not only to listen to the good news but to be proactive in doing whatever we can to live it and share it with those we encounter in our daily lives.  If we really believe in the message of Jesus, he will empower us through the Holy Spirit and support us on our journey of living the message of Jesus which is based on love for all.

UNIVERSAL SYNOD 2021-2023

Following the engagement by so many people across the Diocese, the diocesan synthesis has been completed and will now be submitted to the National Steering Committee.  The synthesis can be viewed on www.dioceseofmeath.ie from Wednesday 1st June.

Thanks to all who took part in the synodal conversations during Lent and to all who completed questionnaires and made submissions.  Thanks to all priests and facilitators who organised the synodal meetings in each deanery.

As we approach the Feast of Pentecost, let us ask the Holy Spirit: “Teach us the way we must go, and how we are to pursue it”.

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL Luke 24:46-53

The Ascension of Jesus was an important growth point for the disciples.  Jesus would be with them in a different way from now on.  Painful though it was, it was necessary for them to let go of his physical presence and adjust to the new reality.  Perhaps you have known similar transition points in your own life.

Jesus invited the disciples to be witnesses to the good news they had learned.  The way we live, speak and relate to others speaks of what we have learned about life.  We all are witnesses.  How have you been a witness to the goodness of life?

In particular Jesus invited them to be witnesses to the good news of forgiveness.  Recall people who have been witness to you of forgiveness and reconciliation.  What effect did they have on your life?  Have you been able to be a witness to the good news of forgiveness in your life?

Stay in the city until…Jesus instructs the apostles to wait patiently for the moment of grace.  What been your experience of waiting for a moment of grace?  What are the moments of grace that you particularly recall (a friendship, a new opportunity, birth of a baby, etc)?
