EASTER At the crucifixion darkness literally descended upon the earth. It seemed that the light of hope had been extinguished. Today the light of Christ shines throughout the world because of the Resurrection. The open tomb is a big part of the Easter story. When Mary visited the tomb on the third day, she finds the stone had been moved away. Along with Peter and others it really dawns on them that something wonderful has happened. Jesus is risen from the dead. They all ran to the tomb, they see and believe – the empty tomb is proof. Reaching the tomb, they are overcome with a new hope. Could it be possible? The beginnings of Easter faith are just budding. There is one important aspect of this new faith. It must be shared with others. The second proof of the Resurrection is the preaching of the disciples, who gave their lives to spreading the Good News. We must take this faith to others or it dies. Are our hearts open? Are we ready to hear the Good News? SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL Luke 24:1-12 You might identify with the women through the events of that morning. They came to search and found an empty tomb. Then they were told they were looking in the wrong place: ‘why look for the living among the dead’. Finally they had to cope with the staggering good news that Jesus was alive when they thought he was dead. Let their story remind you of your journey when you found life again when you thought there was none – perhaps you may have felt like that during the recent long Covid lockdown. The women were the first witnesses to the resurrection. Remember the women in your life who have brought you good news, and the women who have been witness to you bringing you to faith in yourself, in others, or in God. The women did not keep their discovery to themselves but hastened to share the good news with the apostles. Have there been times when your heart has been full of good news that you were eager to share with others.
