SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL Mark 13:24-32 Jesus speaks of the established order falling apart, but the collapse of the old order opened the way for new possibilities. Our church is in crisis, and the world is facing climate disaster. Where have you seen something new and hopeful emerge in the midst of all this, e.g. some action arising from better eco awareness (less waste, a community garden, et al)? The parable of the fig tree. Even in winter it begins to put forth leaves which give a hint of the fruit to come. Where have you found signs of hope in a wintery situation – in your own life, in the life of some group, in the life of the church, in our world? Jesus proposes no clear time-scale for the events being foretold, so the final sentence (v.32) is a call to alertness, to live the present to the full. What difference does it make to you when you are able to live the present moment to the full? John Byrne OSA, Intercom November 2021
MASS FOR PARENTS WHO HAVE LOST A CHILD On Tuesday 16th at 7.30pm In the Church of the Assumption, we will support and pray for parents who have lost a child. At this Mass we will pray for all parents, family members and friends who have to cope with the tragic and untimely death of their infant, child, teenager or adult son or daughter. We will remember with love and celebrate the lives of babies who have died before or around the time of birth. We also welcome parents who have undergone the trauma of abortion. All are most welcome.
BISHOPS OF IRELAND PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK The Covid-19 pandemic has been a particularly difficult time for those who have lost loved ones and have often had to cope with their grief without many of the usual spiritual and community supports. To pastorally support everyone who has suffered the pain of bereavement during the pandemic, and in the context of the month of November as the traditional time when we remember our dead, today, Sunday 14th at 3.00pm, the Bishops of Ireland will undertake a pilgrimage to the International Eucharistic and Marian Shrine in Knock. The bishops will concelebrate Mass for all those who have died in our country during the pandemic, and for their families. At the Mass the bishops will also offer prayers of thanksgiving for all those who so selflessly sacrificed so much during the pandemic. This Mass will be live-streamed on www.knockshrine.ie and broadcast on the RTÉ News Now digital television channel and online. The bishops invite everyone to join with them in prayer on this solemn occasion.
