OUR CHURCH IS REOPENING FOR PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF THE SACRAMENTS

From tomorrow, Monday 10th, we are permitted to reopen our church for Mass and the public celebration of the sacraments which are central to our lives. We are currently making preparations to ensure that we can open our church in line with national health guidelines and the safety of everyone attending and the integrity of the sacraments.

Tullamore church will be divided into four sections; each with its own entrance/exit, each section holding 50 people. The church will be organised in such a way that people will not travel between sections and communion will be distributed within each section.Durrow church will be in one section with a capacity for 50 people.

Monday May 10th, public Masses will recommence at 7.45am and 10.00am.

Weekend of May 15/16th Mass times will revert back to what they were pre-pandemic and will be:

Weddings: Government guidelines permit a maximum of 50 people in the church.

Baptisms: Can be arranged by contacting the Parish Secretary.

Confessions: Saturday 2.00-3.00pm in the Day Chapel.

This has been a most difficult time for everyone and we are relieved and delighted that we can come  together in Church once again. The pandemic still presents a real threat and we continue to observe the guidelines for our own protection and the protection of one another. The reopening of our churches is a real sign of hope. Our faith strengthens us and gives us courage and we always look to the Lord who is our light and our help.

We thank you for your wonderful support to the parish during these times and together, as a community, we can continue to move forward.

Volunteers are wanted to help with stewarding at the Church doors and for sanitizing after each Mass.  If you can give your time to help, please leave your name and the Mass you can help at in to the Parish Centre.

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL

John 15:9-7

A commandment of love is something of a contradiction in terms.  Love is a free choice.  That is what gives the thrill to the experience of being loved.  Recall times when you received gestures of love from another;

- a spontaneous embrace from a husband or wife;

- a wave from a friend;

- words of comfort and affirmation

not because the other person felt obliged to reach out to you but because they wanted to let you know that you were loved.  What effect did that have on you?  Did it bring you joy?  Perhaps you have had a glimpse of the truth of what Jesus said, that it is in loving that our joy is complete.

Often love and friendship make demands on us.  Parents give freely of their times and energy to the care of their children but sometimes it requires a lot of effort.  Also, in responding to the needs of friends or spouses we can be challenged to ‘lay down’ our own ‘lives’ at least for a time.  Can you recall a time when putting yourself out for others bore fruit for them and for you?

‘I chose you’.  Have you had the experience of being ‘chosen’ by someone?  What was it like for you to be chosen?  What is it like for you to consider yourself as one chosen by Jesus?   That is what we are – chosen by Jesus to bear fruit through our love.
