SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL

Jn 2:13-25

In the Old Testament the privileged place of God’s presence was the Temple in Jerusalem.  In the New Covenant, this was replaced by the person of Jesus.  This is the symbolism of the action of Jesus in the Temple.  Recall how Jesus has helped your relationship with God and give thanks for this.

But we are the Body of Christ.  When have you been particularly aware of the sacredness of people (yourself or others).

There are many ways in which people, the temples of God, are being profaned today.  Where are you aware of the sacredness of the human person being violated?  Who are the people seeking to cleanse the temple, by promoting respect for the dignity of every human person?  Perhaps in ways you have done this.

We may also think of institutions as in some way temples of God’s presence.  In this time when aspects of our institutions are crumbling we can perhaps indentify with the Jews who are horrified at the suggestion that the Temple would be destroyed.  What is it like for you living in a time when some of the things you have taken for granted are collapsing?  Where do you find hope in such circumstances?

TULLAMORE PARISH NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH

On the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception Dec.  8, 2020, Pope Francis proclaimed a year dedicated to St. Joseph, husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus.  It is to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the declaration of St. Joseph as patron of the universal church.  The special “Year of St. Joseph” will be held until December 8, 2021.  Pope Francis explains that the aim of this special year is “to increase our love for this great saint, to encourage us to implore his intercession and to imitate his virtues and his zeal.”

As part of our parish celebration of the “Year St. Joseph”, we shall have a Parish Novena to St. Joseph beginning from Thursday 11th to finish on Friday 19th March which is the Solemnity of St. Joseph.  The Novena shall take place immediately after the 6:30pm Mass.  It will include the Novena prayers to St. Joseph for each day, and Benediction.

We are invited to write our petitions and submit them to a box to be left at the statue of St. Joseph in the parish, which will be brought to the altar during Mass throughout the Novena.  Leaflets containing the Novena prayers are  available for us to collect from the church.

St. Joseph, Guardian of the Holy Family, pray for us.
