SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL

Matthew 13:1-23

Jesus uses parables to makepeople think about their ownresponses to his message. As youread this parable you mayrecognise that at different timesyou have been like each of thedifferent types of soil. As yourecall times when you presentedfertile soil for the word of God,what helped you create thatreceptive atmosphere? Whatlessons for life do you get fromthat?

Parents with children, teacherswith pupils, speakers withlisteners, are all like sowers in afield where the preparation of thesoil is up to another – the child, pupil or listener. They can sow theseed but cannot guarantee that itwill bear fruit. At times there maybe a temptation not to try anymore. The challenge is to sow inhope. When have you beensurprised by the harvest you havereaped?

‘We are wasting our time here’may sometimes be the apparentwisdom in a group. Have therebeen times when you have goneagainst this apparent wisdom andseen your efforts bear fruit?
