 GOD'S  MERCY

• The Mercy of God for us sinners, is emphasised in the Scripture readings today.
God shows His Mercy for the Israelites in Exodus, even though they had abandoned their faith in Him and worshipped ‘a calf of molten metal'.
• St Paul tells us of God's Mercy towards him, although he used to be a blasphemer and persecutor of the early Christians.  God not only forgave him, but made Paul the greatest of all missionaries, to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles and to us.
The parables in Luke's Gospel illustrate the loving Mercy of God for us, sinners, ‘lost sheep', prodigal sons and daughters.
• In our time, when so many young people seem to abandon their faith in God, it is a great consolation to realise that there is so much rejoicing in heaven over each repentant sinner.

Departure of Fr Willie

This weekend marks Fr Willie's last time to celebrate Sunday Mass here, in Tullamore, as Parish Priest.  As you may have read in the newspapers duringthe week, he is moving on (temporarily) to Mornington, near Bettystown, Co Meath.  As a parish, we wish him all the very best in his "new pasture".  No doubt he will make as positive a mark there as he made with us.
Fr Willie came to us in December ‘89 and in that time he has grown in the admiration and respect of his parishioners.  Always outgoing, energetic and creative, it's true to say that a great many will only have the fondest memories of him.  As is befitting of the occasion, he will speak to us today at all Masses about his own memories and gratitude to you, the parishioners, for all you have given him.
As a parish, we also pay tribute today to the invaluable contributions of Martin Kennedy and Venus Guibone who are also moving on.  Martin as pastoral co-ordinator and Venus as liturgy co-ordinator, have each worked here for the last five years helping this parish to reach out to others in imaginative and effective ways.  As highly respected members of our parish team, a great many parishioners will always have the height of appreciation for all they have done.  Long after the memories of people fade, the lasting legacy of Fr Willie, Martin and Venus will endure.  We owe them our deepest thanks and wish them every success in wherever their futures bring them.
