The "unorthodox, wrong-side-of-town" man from Samaria did.
So, do as he did, Jesus tells us - but when do we get this compassion?
The personal involvement and self-giving entailed is usually only learned through suffering and prayer: two tools which prise open our selfish hearts to genuine compassion for the "other" - be it neighbour, enemy or friend.
