Deliver us, Lord, from every evil and grant us peace in our day.
In your mercy keep us free from sin and protect us from all anxiety
as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our savior, Jesus Christ.

GAUDETE – REJOICE

15th. Dec. is Gaudete Sunday, the third Sunday of Advent.  The birth of the Saviour is drawing near and we should rejoice.  The Entrance Antiphon is “Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice!  The Lord is near”.  This theme of rejoicing can be seen also in the first reading from Isaiah, “they will come to Zion shouting for joy, everlasting joy on their faces; Joy and gladness will go with them and sorrow and lament be ended. St James urges us to be patient and not lose heart, because the Lord’s coming will be soon.  This is what we must concentrate our minds on at this time of year.  We are surrounded by all sorts of worldly difficulties – unemployment, poverty, lawlessness, insecurity, wars and threats of war.  We might feel like John the Baptist in his prison cell and doubt if Jesus is the one, and, at times even lose faith.  But we must trust in the harvest.  Christmas is coming.  It is a time of joy for those who believe.  Let us follow the example of our children and rejoice with all our heart.
