God of the desert, as we follow Jesus into the unknown,
May we recognise the tempter when he comes; Let it be
Your bread we eat, Your world we serve and You alone we worship.  Amen

GUEST SPEAKERS FOR LENT
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 1st.  It is a wonderful season of grace when we can deepen our faith and amend our lives.  This year Monday evenings have a special focus.  Each Monday evening a guest speaker will join us for the 7.30 Mass.
6 March - A representative of Trocaire will explain this year’s Lenten campaign.
13 March - Bishop Fintan Monaghan, Bishop of Killaloe.  Bishop Fintan was born in Tullamore and was a priest of the Archdiocese of Tuam before his appointment.  He is one of the recent bishops appointed by Pope Francis.
20 March - Jim Browne. A layman from Co Mayo who has dedicated his life to establishing prayer groups.  He has a wonderful insight into Scripture and faith.
27 March - Fr Liam Lawton.  Well known in the music ministry Fr Liam is a priest of the Diocese of Kildare and Leighin.
3 April - NET ministries - Young Catholic Missionaries, mostly from the United States.  They dedicate their time to working with youth and giving parish missions.  They give a very different perspective on being young and Catholic.
10 April - Final Monday at the beginning of Holy Week.  Day of Penance and Reconciliation. Mass will be followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
DISCOVERING CHRIST
We thank God for a wonderful programme each Saturday night.  The theme last weekend was “What does Jesus want us to know?  This weekend’s theme is “Why do we need a Saviour?”

MEMORIAL MASS FOR ALFIE LAMBE IN RATHGAR
The Tullamore born missionary, Alfie Lambe, was appointed to encourage participation in the Legion of Mary in South America while still a young man. Having travelled to every country in the sub-continent he became ill and died aged just 26 years.  The arch diocese of Buenos Aires initiated the call for his beatification in 1978 and a memorial mass in his honour will be celebrated  in Rathgar Church on Sun. 26th. Feb. at 12:00 noon.

AT MASS WE STAND AND SIT AND KNEEL
We are introducing some small changes in when we sit and stand at Mass to bring our liturgy into line with the missal.  We hope that a common practice, which is being used in most parishes throughout the country, will help people feel even more welcome and at home in whatever Church they participate in the celebration of the Eucharist.  We will introduce this change during Lent.
BAPTISMS
The next available Baptism dates are Sat 18th, Sat 25th Mar & Sun 2nd Apr in Tullamore & Sun 9th Apr in Durrow. The pre-baptism meeting for this date is on Wed 15th Mar. To book in for the meeting and baptisms, contact the Parish Secretary, at the Parish Office, Mon-Fri, 9.30am-5pm.

CATHOLIC GRANDPARENTS CONFERENCE
We are truly delighted to invite you to our First Annual Retreat - Conference which is taking place in the Dominican Retreat Centre, Tallaght in Dublin. For many Catholic children today, their grandparents may be the only practising Catholic members of their families. But even those children who are blessed with devout Catholic parents must grow to maturity in a highly secularised culture which radically competes for their hearts and minds and denies our need for God.
