Our Lady of Lourdes 11th February 2008

Our Lady of Lourdes

February 11th marked the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the apparitions of Our Lady of Lourdes to St Bernadette.  It was also World Day of the Sick.
To mark the feast day, there was Mass, candle light rosary and benediction for all who are sick or recovering in the parish.
The ceremonies began at 7.30pm.

The story of Lourdes is one of great hope.  We are reminded that the saints are close to us, and the first of all saints is our Blessed Mother Mary.  She told St Bernadette “I cannot promise to make you happy in this life, but in the next!”
We unite our prayers with the millions of pilgrims who travel to Our Lady’s shrine in Lourdes in faith and hope each year.  There is a plenary indulgence attached to the feast day.  Details of this were published at Our Lady’s statue in the Church.
