 TRUE AND FULL LIFE

The answer Jesus gives Philip and Andrew when they tell Him some Greeks would like to see Him must have surprised them. He doesn’t encourage them with niceties about what following Him would entail – like ‘top jobs’ in the New Kingdom free from Rome… The Apostles illusions were probably still fairly intact, but Jesus’ reply left little room for manoeuvre. Any success on the path Jesus is on entails loss and death! “…a grain of wheat must die to bear fruit” and “one must loose one’s life to find it…”

How could they, or we, even want, never mind perserve, on a path so contrary to the inherent selfishness in our human nature. The key is in the first reading. God promises He will make a new Relationship/Covenant with His people: “I will implant my Law deep within their being, I will write it in their hearts.” In this New Relationship with Him what He implants in our hearts is His own Holy Spirit – the total gift of His life, even to death – death on the cross. It is this gift that enables us to walk in His path and that opens Heaven to us – access to the true and full life of joy in our Father’s House.

PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES

The final Ritual for Confirmation, which was cancelled due to recent bad weather, will now take place on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th. It is hoped to have speakers from Cuan Mhuire.

PREPARING FOR HOLY WEEK

This year we reintroduce an age old custom in the Church. From this Sunday until the Easter Vigil the large Crucifix and the small Crucifix in the sanctuary will be covered with purple cloth. This is to focus our minds of what we are about to celebrate; Jesus' betrayal, suffering, death and Resurrection.

The next two weeks are the most important in the Church's year. We unite ourselves with Christ in his suffering.

EQUALITY, RIGHTS AND LOVE

Article 40.3.3 of the Constitution of Ireland -  The 8th Amendment - reads, “The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right.” During the marriage equality debate there were three major arguments made in favour of a constitutional amendment; enshrining equality, more rights and love in our Constitution. Is it not remarkable that we as a people are now being asked to remove equality, rights and love from the same Constitution?  Mother and child; love both.

ROSARY FOR LIFE

The Rosary is offered every Monday evening at 6.30pm for the preservation of the 8th Amendment. Please join your prayers with this intention.

FOR CHILDREN BAPTISED IN 2017

We invite Parents and their child/children to the celebration of the Eucharist on Easter Sunday, April 1st at 10.00am in the Church of the Assumption.

We would like you to join us, to celebrate and remember your child’s baptism and entry into the Christian Community during 2017.

Please come and be part of this special occasion.
