THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

Today’s mass is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. That is, today is a celebration or festival in honour of the Trinity, three persons in one God. The themes of the readings are wisdom, truth and love. These three come from the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

When we profess our faith in the Creed, we express our belief in the Most Holy Trinity. We might not understand the Trinity, but we have been given the gift of faith at our Baptism, strengthened by other Sacraments, and this allows us to accept and treasure something that we do not fully understand. Faith and belief in the Most Holy Trinity is a God-given gift to us. We express our belief in the prayer that is the Creed.

Two other prayers that express the same belief are the Sign of the Cross—“In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”, and the “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit”. Say these prayers often and with respect to celebrate the fact of the Most Holy Trinity, at work in our lives.

FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI RETREAT & PROCESSION

A retreat will be hosted by the Knights of St Columbanus on Saturday 22nd to mark the feast of Corpus Christi. Starting with Mass at 10.00am, the retreat then moves to the Parish Centre for a series of talks and reflections and ends at 3.00pm. All members of the parish are invited to attend this retreat.

The annual Corpus Christi Procession will be held on Saturday 22nd after 6.30pm Mass (weather permitting).

The procession will take the route, Store St, Harbour St, Colmcille St, Church St, Henry St, Harbour St and end with Benediction in the grounds of the Church of the Assumption. All parishioners are encouraged to take part in this joyful public celebration of the Eucharist.

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL

John 16:12-15

Wisdom about life comes slowly and sometimes painfully. Hearing the ‘right’ answer at the ‘wrong’ time does not help us. We need to be ready and open to receiving the truth if it is to have any impact. Perhaps you can recall some occasions when it was the ‘right’ time for you to learn a truth about life. Remember your experiences of growing in understanding and truth.

Perhaps the Spirit guided you through the words of someone close to you, or through the words and actions of people you read about or saw on TV. Or maybe understanding came to you when praying or reflecting on your life. Remember and give thanks for the people who have helped you to greater wisdom on your journey through life.

Wisdom is handed on from person to person, and from generation to generation, within families, within communities, etc. Are there any wisdom sayings that you cherish from what has been handed on to you?

John Byrne, Intercom June
