THE HOLY FACE OF JESUS

In today’s Gospel, we are presented with the scene of the Visitation which we remember every time we recite the second joyful mystery of the Rosary.  Bearing the life of Jesus, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Mary takes the initiative in going to visit her cousin Elizabeth.  Four characters come together in this meeting, the two expectant mothers, Mary and Elizabeth, and their unborn children, Jesus and John.

Now, as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, Her child John leapt in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and she uttered the words that have come down to us in the prayer: “Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb”.

In a couple of days, we will celebrate the birth of Mary’s child Jesus. We can recite those words of Elizabeth with the same joy.  Jesus, our Saviour, has come into the world.  His Holy Face is shining on us.  Let us be filled with delight and happiness on this, His Birthday, and on every day. O adorable Face, have mercy on us.
