GENEROSITY – FROM THE HEART

Generosity is the theme running through all of today’s readings.

Firstly, we read of the widow sharing the little food she had with a stranger and the promise of plenty for her generosity.

Secondly, we read of the ultimate generosity, where Our Lord, out of love for us, gave His very life (Hebrews 9:27)

The Gospel challenges us – in sharing with the poor, we share with Christ.  The widow in offering her mite, gave of everything she had – no caluculation, no counting of the cost, her total trust.

No matter how challeged we are by life or its circumstances, our greatest offering is of ourselves, our littleness, our smallness, our time, our work, and how acceptable it is to God.

He who sees our hearts and knows the poverty of our lives and our need of Him, will replenish us just as He did the widow in the first reading.

Let us take a look at our heart today.  Is it a grasping or a giving heart?  Can you tell?

MASS FOR PARENTS WHO HAVE LOST A CHILD

On Tuesday 13th at 7.30pm in the Church of the Assumption, we will support and pray for parents who have lost a child.

At this Mass we will pray for all parents, family members and friends who have had to cope with the tragic and untimely death of their infant, child, teenager or adult son or daughter.

We will remember with love and celebrate the lives of babies who have died before or around the time of birth.  We also welcome parents who have undergone the trauma of abortion.

All are most welcome.

ST CATHERINE’S CHURCH - SUPPORT APPEAL

We share the pain of the Church of Ireland community in the wake of the terrible act of vandalism committed against St.Catherine’s Hophill. Our solidarity and our love is the most important thing we can offer. We also wish to help materially. Envelopes are available in the Church and the Parish Centre, for you to make a contribution towards the cost of re-sorting the building. This will be collected and given from our parish at the end of the month. They can be dropped into the sacristy, the Parish Centre or in the weekly collection baskets. The Church of Ireland’s generosity and welcome when our parish church burned down in 1983 will never be forgotten.

There will also be a Coffee Morning and raffle in the Parish Centre on Thursday 15 from 10.30am-12.30. Baked goodies welcomed!

Donations can also be sent via St Catherine’s “Go Fund Me” web site at www.gofundme.com/st-catherines-church-repair-appealor to The Treasurer, St Catherine’s Church, Charleville Centre,Church Avenue.  Cheques should be made payable to Tullamore Union of Parishes.Your support is most welcome.
