SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPEL

MARK 10:46-52

In this story Jesus cures the blind man, Bartimaeus. Recovery of sight in the Bible is often a metaphor for coming to faith. Perhaps during your life you have had moments of insight, of deeper understanding, of appreciating who Jesus is for you. What is it that helped you to see more clearly?

Who has the ‘Jesus person’ who helped you to see more clearly? Perhaps as a parent, a teacher or a friend, you have also been a ‘Jesus person’ for another and helped her or him to a clearer understanding of the meaning of life, love and faith.

To get to Jesus, Bartimaeus threw aside his cloak so that he  would not be impeded. What have you had to discard in order to be able to see more clearly (eg. an assumption, a prejudice, a rigid option)?

‘Your faith has saved you’ Jesus said to Bartimaeus. Recall situations in which you have been grateful for the faith that is yours because in some way it saved you.

NIGHT OF LIGHT – CELEBRATION OF HALLOWEEN

Halloween means 'the evening of the Saints' and while it has been re designated by culture as a night of goblins and gowls, the whole idea of Halloween is the preparation for the great feast of All Saints Day, November  1st .

To mark this, there is a party for kids in the Parish Centre, 6.30-8pm on October 31st. Fun, food and games, with a little dash of prayer! Children are invited to come along dressed as....their favourite saint!

SENIOR CITIZENS BINGO

Senior Citizens Bingo, organised by JPPC, will take place after 10.00am Mass on Friday 02nd in the Parish Centre.

PARISH GOLF CLASSIC

The Parish would like to thank the people who supported our Golf Classic or helped in any way to make it a great success. It raised €11,360. Thank you for all your generosity.

BANK HOLIDAY

Tomorrow, Monday 29th is a Bank Holiday. There will be one Mass only at 10.00am.

A HEARTFELT THANK YOU!

Thank you so much for your kindness on World Mission Sunday last week. Your generosity means that you are helping to empower people who are struggling to form sustainable communities of faith, hope and love.

Your prayers and donations will help missionaries across the world share the love of Christ with those in greatest need. Your generous support means that people will have the chance to experience love and support within our Church family. Please continue to pray for the work of World Missions Ireland and everyone who works to show the love of Jesus.

To continue to support the vital work of our missionaries call World Missions Ireland on 014972035 (Monday - Friday) or go to the World Missions Ireland website www.wmi.ie.

MONTH OF NOVEMBER

MASS FOR THE BEREAVED

The 10.00am Mass on Saturday 3rd will be for all families in our Parish who have lost a loved one during the year.

It is the teaching of the Church and the practice of our ancestors to remember the dead during this month.

Birth, growth and death are of the natural order. Each of us will die some day as it is part of God’s plan for us. Let us follow God’s command and pray for the souls of the dead who have gone before us – our relatives, neighbours, ancestors and all the holy souls. May God increase their glory, ease their pain and grant them remission of their sins. We can also visit a church or cemetery during this month.

It is comforting to remember that our relatives are not gone from us but before us and one day we will be with them in Paradise.

CHARITABLE DONATIONS – CHY4 CERTS

All parishioners who donated €250 or more to the parish in 2017 have been sent a CHY4 cert.  When you sign and return them to us we will be able to seek a tax refund of approximately 45% of the total donated.

Thank you to all who have signed and returned their certs and we would appeal to all parishioners to return them as soon as possible.  If you have mislaid your cert and would like a new one issued, please contact Noeleen, the Parish Secretary.
