LOVE IS THE WAY

The world in which we live today is longing for peace and justice; in our countries, homes and relationships. We may be scared at times by this world as presented on our T.V screens and in our papers, with its violence, poverty, homelessness, abortions, addictions and our sense of helplessness.

In todays Gospel Jesus prays to His Father to consecrate His chosen ones in the truth. “Consecrate them in the truth, your word is truth”(John 17:17).

When we were baptised and confirmed, we were commissioned to live as witnesses to Him and to the truth in our lives. We need to nurture our families in the truth, because in these times confronting the truth can be painful and lonely. We need His strength not to run away from problems, but to face them out of His love for us and our love for each other.

“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we too must love one another” (John 4:11).

As followers of Jesus, choose truth.

THREE DAYS IN HONOUR OF ST. PIO

Wednesday 23rd, Thursday 24th, Friday 25th; Rosary at 7pm. Mass 7.30pm followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

The Triduum concludes on May 25th - the day of the referendum - which is in fact the Saint's birthday.

SPEAKERS AT MASS-

Wednesday 23rd - Dr Deirdre Gleeson a GP based in Newbridge. Dr Gleeson has done great work with the pro-life campaign and will address the serious issues of life that face us.

Thursday 24th - Fr Shane Crombie - chaplain to the Padre Pio prayer group in Tullamore.

Friday 25th - Fr. Terrance Harrington OFM.Cap - Fr. Terrence is a Capuchin Father, the same order as the beloved Saint.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Congratulations to the children from Scoil Bhride & Ballinamere who received the Eucharist for the first time last Sunday. We wish God’s blessing on them, their families, friends and teachers and all who helped them on their faith journey to this special time.

FRIDAY’S REFERENDUM

As we prepare to vote on Friday it is worth revisiting Bishop Smith's message on the referendum. Among other things he reminds us:

1. The Supreme Court judgment means that the child in the womb would have no constitutional right to treatment or support, if the 8th is repealed.

2. Despite suggestions to the contrary, the Church asks that all necessary medical treatment be given to a mother in pregnancy even if this were to result in the unintended death of the child.

3. A compassionate society will do all in its power to support and love the mother and baby.

4. Abortion is a brutal act.  There is no semblance of compassion involved in ending the life of the child in the womb.

5. If repealed the current government will legislate for unlimited abortion on demand up to 12 weeks, for unlimited abortion up to 24 weeks on the grounds of mental health, and for unlimited abortion up to birth in cases of life-limiting conditions.  This prospect can only be described as horrifying.

Let us pray the Holy Spirit will inspire all men and women of goodwill to vote to protect and preserve the life.

ROSARY FOR LIFE

In this most important week in the history of our nation, we ask the Holy Mother of God to intercede for us. The Rosary will be prayed every evening at 7pm that the 8th Amendment will be retained.

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION

Tullamore Parish Annual Corpus Christi Procession takes place after 6.30pm Mass on Saturday June 2nd. This year marks our 91st procession through the town.

Weather permitting the procession will exit the main door of the Church on to Store Street, passing through Harbour Street, on to Daingean Road and end with Benediction in Whitehall Estate.
