FULFILLING THE GOSPEL DREAM

The first reading today ends in an abrupt manner “Why are you…standing there looking into the sky?” At the time there was a real sense of “hoplessness and abandonment” after Jesus ascended into heaven. The disciples were staring into a bleak and uncertain future, thinking of the past and failing to cherish and live the moment.

Jesus has never stopped being present with us throughout all time. Let us remind ourselves of Christ’s unconditional acceptance of our humanity and all that entails. Yet, He still calls us to be His messangers and commissions us to live and proclaim the message in our community and beyond. The Ressurection and Ascension of Jesus were not an act of divine abandonment of the human cause but rather divine empowerment of the gospel dream.

Many changes have and will continue to take place within the Church, but two fundamentals will remain – the reality of Jesus and His message – the messanger and the message. As we remember the Ascension and celebrate World Communications Day, we are invited or maybe challenged by Jesus to be messangers and to communicate His message always conscious of His support through the Spirit.

We are an Easter People bringing the Risen Jesus to others.

THREE DAYS IN HONOUR OF ST. PIO

Three days in honour of St. Pio; 23rd, 24th, 25th May. Rosary 7.00pm. Mass 7.30pm followed by a short time of Adoration and Benediction. Friday; blessing with the relic. In these days we will pray for our nation to choose life on May 25th

ADORATION IN THE HOSPITAL CHAPEL

In the weeks leading up to the feast of Corpus Christi (June 3rd) we thank God for the great gift of Eucharistic Adoration in the parish. The Blessed Sacrament is exposed 24/7 in the Hospital Chapel. If you have not been in there before, or in a while, take a few moments to make a visit. There is always a need for adorers to keep the vigil. Contact details are available in the Hospital Chapel.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Congratulations to the children from Scoil Mhuire who received the Eucharist for the first time last Sunday. We wish God’s blessing on them, their families, friends and teachers and all who helped them on their faith journey to this special time.

PRECIOUS IN GOD’S EYES, CONSECRATED BEFORE BIRTH

You will have noticed the two banners in the Church either side of the Altar. They are two short quotes from the Old Testament, and both come from readings used at Baptism. In the context of the May 25th referendum they remind us of two things: everyone of us is precious in the eyes of God for we are His children – created by the Father, redeemed by the Son and made holy by the Holy Spirit. We are not accidents or the simple work of nature. We are God’s own. Secondly, even before we were born, we are known, cherished and madly loved by God. Life is God’s gift, not our choice. As the referendum approaches: choose life.
