THE COMING

Every year around this time we come very close to the Nativity when we celebrate the birth of a child, in the humblest of places, namely Jesus. This came about because a young woman named Mary, when asked by an angel, took on a role that she did not fully understand. It was a commitment to bring Jesus into the world. For any mother hoping to give birth at this time, what a special blessing to be united with Mary as they await the birth of their newborn.

As we look around at all the outward signs of the coming of Christmas; lights, decorations, the busyness in the shops and streets, how many of us are in touch with its real meaning.

What is happening in our own hearts and lives that reflects the light of Christ and His gentle presence? Are we joy-filled people waiting to celebrate in our own hearts and spirit with our ‘Alleluias’, or are we spiritually impoverished in the midst of all the materialistic preparations?

“I am the Lords servant, may it be to me as you have said”. (Luke 1:38).

WISHING ALL OUR PARISHONERS EVERY BLESSING AT CHRISTMAS

Nollaig Shona daoibh go léir.

Niech duch Swiety wypeti nas radoscia I zesle nan as pocoj.

Crácuyn erucut.  Fie ca Dumnezeu sa-ti dea sánatate, bucurfii si multá ferucure.

Que o Senor te ebcge fekucadade e te de paz.

On behalf of the priests of the parish and the team I wish the people of the parish every peace and blessing this Christmas time.  A warm welcome home to those who have managed to travel and welcome to those who are visiting our parish this Christmas.  We also remember family members and friends who are in other parts of the world; we are separated by distance but united in thought and prayer.

Christ is born for us; let us rejoice in the day of our salvation!

Christmas is when Jesus, the Saviour is born of the Virgin Mary. The Crib makes us see the “sign” which God has given us: “a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger” (Lk 2:12). Like the shepherds of Bethlehem, may we too set out to see this sign, this event which is renewed yearly in the Church. Christmas is an event which is renewed in every family, parish and community which receives the love of God made incarnate in Jesus Christ.

Where God is born, hope is born; and where hope is born, persons regain their dignity. Yet even today great numbers of men and woman are deprived of their human dignity and, like the child Jesus, suffer cold, poverty, homelessness and rejection. May our closeness today be felt by those who are most vulnerable.

We remember those fleeing extreme poverty or war, travelling all too often in inhumane conditions and often at the risk of their lives. May God repay all those, both individuals and states, who generously work to provide assistance and welcome to the numerous migrants and refugees, helping them to build a dignified future for themselves and for their dear ones, and to be integrated in the societies which receive them.

Where God is born, mercy flourishes. Mercy is the most precious gift which God gives us. We are called to discover that tender love of our heavenly Father for each of us. May the Lord enable us to experience his merciful love, which heals wounds and triumphs over evil.

This Christmas time, as we look into the Crib, may we see the open arms of Jesus, which show us the merciful embrace of God.

Peace be with you.
